These images show the path of a charged particle inserted into the magnetic field created by a wire carrying a steady current. They were generated by greating a guided user interface in MatLab and then doing a simulation of the run. It should prove interesting to show students one of the paths and have students predict the others. The GUI can also be used to study how the path varies with the parameters.

This image was generated using MatLab. The Lorentz force was calculated using the cross product of the velocity of the particle and magnetic field at that point.
